It was a fairly quiet meeting this week just 6 attendees. We talked about a few issues in the news regarding DA's survey findings.. That 1 in 2 people suffered from some form of Depression in their lifetime, how loneliness can lead to depression and how engaging with people can help. Plus in Gloucestershire money spent on prescribing anti-dressants had increased considerably in 2012. Seems that GP's will prescribe anti-depressants rather than advising people on talking therapies. We asked are GP's able to differentiate sadness from depression? Do talking therapies help? Are we just fed up with bringing up our past over and over? Some things to think about.
Well after a week off poorly I was glad to get back to the group! Finding out how everyone has been and how we are getting on!..

This weeks session went really well with lots of good support and advise for and from the group! A little short on time though, so it may have been worth separating into 2 groups again? Something to think about.
A task was set for this week, do only if you would like to, to think about what makes you laugh spontaneously, not necessarily when you are happy, but during those dark and gloomy times. Animals do it for me, even when I was at my lowest, animals doing daft things and I laugh! Also to think about what you enjoy doing that does not involve others. I referred to my comfort sheet for this one. Looking forward to hearing how group has got on next Monday!! Last Monday 6th Jan the group divided in half so we had more time to share our week. Hope this was useful to all who attended.
The short surveys folks completed have been really useful to find out how you want the group to progress. There are 3 main areas that folks like, which are:- Sharing their week Discussion on particular topis And the social part. It's quite difficult to have all these activities in one session, however hopefully we can mix these up over the coming months. Me and a few of the group attended the Free Taster Session on Mindfulness at At Lukes Medical Centre in Stroud. It was a very interesting talk from the two chaps who run the eight week courses from Mindfulness-West. Anyone interested in finding our more you can contact them via www.mindfulness-west.com.
Looking forward to our first meeting on Monday 6th January. Lots to think about and do for 2014. Hope all the group have had a good Christmas and New Year! It will be great to hear what you have all been doing and keeping!
