Over the past few weeks I have been thinking about how to feel empowered. In a world where people can be quick to take your power away, how possible is it to remain confident enough not to disengage from your dominance.
As a women is it harder to remain in control in situations that bring you face to face with such a challenge that you need male support to shelter you from the harshness of the reality? Do you need protection from the sword arm, shielded from the fire or taken from the battle? No. Life can be tough, but just because I'm female doesn't mean I need a male to protect me from it.
It can also be very disempowering to have stuff done for you when you have not asked for it to be done. I try and keep my inner senses alert when I think I'm being controlled. I can be oversensitive, so I try to keep my thoughts in perspective. However, to take someone's power away can undermine there sense of self, leave them feeling insecure, which can cause low self esteem and ultimately low mood, depression and anxiety.
It can work the other way too. Just because you are a man doesn't mean you have the inner resource to deal with all of life's ups and downs. Why is it that men are called "weak" when they cry. Or when life events are at their worst your told to "have a stiff upper lip" and "deal with it like a man" when you're not handling the situation as well as society expects of you do. Using ridicule is so disempowering. Men, as well as women, need to cry and connect with those emotions, see them through and ultimately regain the strength form within themselves.
Use your power. We all have it, that inner strength that pulls us through. Recognise, acknowledge and embrace it.
