Quick plug for our Art Session coming up this Monday 4th July. There are still places available so come along and have some fun with Paper Mache!! Steve is an excellent Facilitator and it's thanks to him that these sessions are FREE and AVAILABLE to all who support or are associated with YourSpace, whether you have attended a meeting or not. Come and give it a try!
At our Group Meetings we have been looking and discussing positive psychology with an emphasis on how we can feel much happier. One of the things we have touched on is self compassion. I found this quote the other day and would like to share it with you....
" Strong emotions can undermine effective behaviour leading people to focus on reducing their distress rather than managing the original problem. If unchecked, because a person lacks self compassion, negative reaction fosters denial or an unwillingness to face the problem, leading to dysfunctional coping behaviours"
I can identify with this. I can think of numerous times when my "problem/dilemma" is not sorted because I become completely consumed by how I'm feeling about it and then that becomes the problem, no wonder I get so overwhelmed by stuff. Since I have been contemplating some of the stuff we have talked in group meetings about "The Happiness Training Program" I have benefited by some of the exercises. Although I've struggle with the "reframing" one we looked at lately. However since stumbling on this quote I'm finding "reframing" a bit easier. I can see now that when I hit a problem I begin to panic and worry about how I'm feeling, what's going on, why am I feeling like this OMG etc etc...... no wonder the problem doesn't get solved!! So with renewed vision on how to tackle a "problem" I will try and see if I get less overwhelmed in future. Watch this space for that one!!!
Just a reminder too that the AGM took place last week. Meeting Minutes are on this page. We passed a new rule to be added to our existing one's this can be found on our "About" page
Hope the coming weeks are good to you all!
